Frequently Asked Questions

Isn't Masters Swimming just for old people?

Don't let the "Masters" name fool you! A better name would probably just be "Adult Swimming". Masters swimming is for anyone aged 18 and upwards. A large proportion of masters swimmers in our club and others are under the age of 40. Our club has quite a number of swimmers in their 20's and younger who regularly train and compete. In swim meets results are determined in age groups starting from 18-24, 25-29, 30-34 and so on, all the way up to 100+.

Why swim with a Masters Swimming club?

Masters Swimming clubs provide squad sessions with coaching. We can help you correct your technique to ensure you avoid injury and get the most out of your training. Training with a group also encourages you to work harder than you would by yourself. Membership in a club affiliated with QLD Masters Swimming allows you to compete at events throughout the state for fun and to motivate yourself to strive harder.

Do I need to be a good swimmer to swim in a squad?

No! Our squad training caters to all abilities and speeds. Our coaches can help you improve your technique or breathing.

What equipment do I need?

To get started all you really need are togs and a pair of goggles. If available a pair of small swim fins is useful. Other devices such as kickboards, pull bouys, paddles and bands are often used, but aren't essential for beginners.
